The fabric of life

Publicerad den 23 juni, 202623 juni, 2026 av nalle

A wise person once said: a circle has no end. And it is true. It does not. Nor does it have any beginning. It just is. Endless. In a continuous loop. But it has two directions.

The brightest minds of humanity have, over time, explained the begining of the existence of the universe as we know it now, as a large explosion. The scientific origin story. The Big Bang. And in some ironic way, that is where the circle of Life began. And also, where it will end. It started in the Big Bang. And it will end in a Big Bang. Probably not the same, but at this time, it is rather unclear. We lack the data, and probably the perspective and possibility to perceive it.

And even though a circle has no end nor a beginning (but two directions) the circle of Life does have a clear beginning and end. And in between, over time, the fabric of Life is woven.

From our perspective, time started at the Big Bang. We only became aware of it eons later, as Life emerged on Earth, and then a few million years later, we defined time and started measuring it. And at that Point in time, counting from the Big Bang, a huge amount of time had already passed, unknowingly I might add, since no one counted it. Or, to be fair, no one counted our flow of time nor were aware of our flow of time before we defined it. It was still there, just undefined. From our point of view. And from our direction in the circle of Life.

From the opposite direction, there is another form of Life traveling from our future backwards in our time. Also originating in the Big Bang. Or a Big Bang. And from the perspective of that Life form, it is of course not traveling backwards in time, it is living Life as we are, moving forward in time, just moving the opposite direction in time.

I say Life form, and I imagine you imagine human-like Life, or aliens, or something like that. But this Life is as alien to us as, well aliens would be. Only it is not aliens, as we define aliens. You know. Spacecraft traveling creatures with green skin or big heads and eyes or something reptile like. No, to describe it more accurately, it would be more like another dimensional Life form. And the reason for this is that it is exactly that. Another dimensional Life form.

Now, since we lack a lot of words and perspectives to describe another dimensional Life form, I can only do my best in doing just that, trying to describe it. The lacking part is hard to overbridge, but two aspects of that Life form are rather easy to understand for the human mind. At least as two different concepts.

The first is, ironically, a lot like threads, and equally ironically, the expression weave the fabric of Life is very suitable in this part of the description. Moving in the opposite direction through time, at the end of ours and in the beginning of theirs, there were literally countless thousands of countless thousands of them. All emerging at the same time. Like thin threads of Life stretching from their beginning to their end. All ”born” at the same time, and loads of them ceasing to exist as their time passes. They don’t die, like us, more just cease to exist, almost like they never existed. Only they did. And they continue to exist in the memories of those who kept on existing. Their version of die, is closer to being trapped and forced to continue to exist in stillness as they, almost in a literal way, are woven into the fabric of Life.

The second part of the description of them, we would call or understand as choices, opportunities and random events. As I make a choice between option A or option B, the selected option will unfold. The unselected option will vanish. For the other Life form, that is the difference of existing and ceasing to exist, up until I made the choice, they both lived side by side moving forward in their time perspective, until I made the choice, that meant that the unchosen does not move past that Point in time. Until I made the choice both were available as part of my future, but since I made it, only one continues to exist and the other vanishes. That is also the Point where the thread is woven into the fabric of Life and can continue to exist, but now bound in the fabric itself, and not loose like it used to be, from their time perspective.

Naturally, multiple options rule out multiple threads, leaving only the one selected to be woven and moving forward in time, but fixed. A choice can also be made or not made, that also selects one thread over the other. Opportunities that are taken or not taken is the same. And random events that occur or not occur is another.

From their time perspective, the last free threads would cease to exist or be woven in by random events. At least I hold that as most likely. A random event after the Big Bang I assume would be something like two rocks flying through empty space that might or might not collide. I have a hard time imagining that the rocks would choose to collide or not. But I have to confess, I have no idea. It might just be lack of understanding or imagination from my part. So to me, it seems most likely that the last free threads ceased to exist or were woven in by random events rather than opportunities or choices.

And as time moved forward (our way), more and more still existed and were still free, but in comparison, very few, since the whole ”choice” part only became possible with Life emerging on Earth. Or perhaps elsewhere as well. That is unknown to me. And if you believe in the holy bible, choice was not available on planet Earth until mankind was created, even if there were Life on Earth before then. In all honesty, I see that it has only marginal impact on the vast timespace to debate a few million years or an eon or two.

As for the thread Life, whenever choice became available from this part of time, it was like a wave of genocide, ever growing from our time perspective – given the population growth, and going from an enormous level to slowing down and then, for the remaining free roaming threads, slowly meeting their fate as the fabric of Life started or finished, depending on the perspective, right before or right after the Big Bang.

One circle ceases to be, another is brought into existence. Two directions of time moving along the circle of Life. The fabric is woven yet again.
